Charlotte Knights beat Gwinnett Braves behind 5-run 8th inning

The Charlotte Knights evened a series against the Gwinnett Brave with a 12-2 win Saturday night cemented by a 5-run eighth inning.

With a 6-2 lead, Travis Ishikawa opened the eighth with a walk against reliever Brandon Cunniff, and was brought home on Leury Garcia’s triple.

After a groundout, Jacob May singled to bring in Garcia. Tim Anderson singled, and J.B. Shuck doubled to bring in two scores.

Matt Davidson singled softly to center against new pitcher David Peterson. Down from the Chicago White Sox on rehab, Alex Avila walked and was replaced by Omar Narvaez.

Jason Coats flied out to center and brought home Shuck.

Ishikawa returned to the plate where he’d begun the inning, and singled to load the bases, and Garcia struck out swinging.

Davidson and Coats each had solo home runs in the fourth inning.

May went 3-for-5 with 3 runs.

The Knights and Braves conclude the series Sunday at 2:05 p.m. John Gant (1-0, 3.57 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Gwinnett. The Knights had not announced a starter.
