Charlotte Knights beat Durham Bulls on 12th-inning wild pitch
The Charlotte Knights (20-18) stayed atop the International League North standings with a wild 12-inning victory Sunday against the Durham Bulls. The game ended with Daniel Fields scoring on a wild pitch by Durham’s Parker Markel (0-1).
The Knights took a 3-1 lead after one inning behind Leury Garcia’s RBI single and Andy Parrino’s 2-run single.
Durham pulled ahead in the top of the ninth on Daniel Robertson’s 2-run double, which scored Charlotte product Richie Shaffer. The Knights knotted the score at 4 in the bottom of the inning when Fields walked with the bases loaded.
Charlotte left 29 runners on base, led by Garcia’s 7.
The Knights open a three-game series Monday at 7:05 against Rochester. Erik Johnson (3-1, 3.77 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Knights, with Tommy Milone (1-0, 1.59) going for the Redwings.
