4 HRs power Rochester to 9-3 victory over Charlotte Knights

The long ball was the Charlotte Knights’ undoing Tuesday night.

Tommy Field, a .163 hitter batting in the eighth slot, hit a pair of two-run home runs as the Rochester Red Wings defeated the Knights 9-3 at BB&T BallPark. All told, Rochester hit four home runs, two coming against Charlotte starter Chris Beck.

The Nos. 6-9 hitters for the Red Wings went 6-for-14 with seven RBIs. Beck (3-3) took the loss. He was removed after allowing the first two runners to reach base in the fourth inning and was charged with five runs. Field’s home runs came in the fourth inning and the ninth. His three hits boosted his average 50 points.

Knights shortstop Tim Anderson had three more hits and has hit safely in nine of his past 10 games (22-for-47, .468). Travis Ishikawa homered and drove in three runs for the Knights, who had 12 hits but left nine runners on base. Rochester made the most of its 12 hits, leaving only three runners on base.

The teams conclude their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05.
