Gwinnett Braves defeat Charlotte Knights 4-1

Four Gwinnett pitchers held Charlotte to five hits Friday night as the Braves defeated the Knights 4-1.

The Knights had their chances but left 11 runners on base and were 0-for 10 with runners in scoring position. Charlotte designated hitter Travis Ishikawa struck out four times and stranded four baserunners.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the fifth and broke it open with three in the seventh. A two-out, bases-loaded triple by Jace Peterson was the big blow.

Jose Ramirez (1-1) got the win in relief after Gwinnett starter Lucas Sims left with one out in the fifth. Sims had been dodging trouble, allowing four hits and four walks. Anthony Ranaudo (0-1) took the loss.

The four-game, home-and-home series moves to Charlotte this weekend with games at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday and 2:05 p.m. on Sunday.
