Syracuse smacks 7 doubles to beat Charlotte Knights

Half of the Syracuse Chiefs’ hits Tuesday went for extra bases, and that was enough to boost them to a 10-6 Class AAA International League baseball victory over Charlotte at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse was coming off back-to-back losses to Norfolk, but the Chiefs got to Knights starter Jacob Turner (3-2) for 11 hits and eight runs over 5 1/3 innings to build an 8-3 lead after six innings.

Matt den Dekker, Caleb Ramsey and Brian Goodwin each had two doubles, and Jason Martinson added another. Turner allowed six of those doubles during his time on the mound.

For the game, Syracuse was 7-for-18 with runners in scoring position against three Charlotte pitchers.

Tim Anderson and Danny Hayes each had two hits for the Knights, but Charlotte left 10 on base and went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

The teams will play Game 2 of the series at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.
