Charlotte Knights defeat Syracuse Chiefs 7-4

Jason Bourgeois and Nicky Delmonico hit home runs to back the stellar pitching of Anthony Ranaudo and lead the Charlotte Knights to a 7-4 victory over Syracuse Tuesday night at BB&T BallPark.

Ranaudo (1-1) allowed only three hits over seven innings and struck out five as the Knights (27-26) remained in first place in the South Division.

Charlotte battered Syracuse starter Taylor Hill (2-4), who allowed seven runs over 3 2/3 innings, breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth inning, all with two out. After Delmonico’s homer, the Knights added a run on an RBI double by Tim Anderson and two more on a single by Carlos Sanchez.

The Chiefs scored two in the ninth, but reliever Tommy Kahnle came on and snuffed the rally by retiring the side with the tying run at the plate.
