The Lehigh Valley IronPigs hit five home runs and got six shutout innings from starter Jake Thompson en route to an 11-3 win over the first place Charlotte Knights on Sunday in the finale of their four-game series. The Knights, who dropped three of four games in the series, finished the seven-game homestand with a 4-3 record.
The first of Lehigh Valley’s five home runs came in the third inning when Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run home run off Charlotte starter Anthony Ranaudo (1-2, 3.45), who was saddled with the loss. Ranuado, who allowed four runs on four hits over seven innings, also allowed a solo home run to Andrew Knapp in the fourth inning, and a solo home run to Taylor Featherston in the sixth inning.
Carlos Sanchez and Jason Bourgeois led the way for Charlotte with two hits apiece. Vinny Rottino, who homered and drove home four runs on Sunday, went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday.
The Knights will now head to Moosic, Penn., to open a four-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Monday at 6:35 p.m.
