Charlotte Knights blanked for 5th time this season
Luis Severino and two relievers combined to hold the Charlotte Knights to seven hits Wednesday as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pulled out a 6-0 victory at PNC Field.
The RailRiders lead the Class AAA International League with 10 shutouts victory this season. The Knights were blanked for the fifth time.
Severino (1-0) limited Charlotte to three singles and one walk over six innings, but the Knights did go 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position for the contest. He struck out seven. Jacob Turner (3-4) was hit hard, allowing six runs on eight hits across 5 2/3 innings.
Tyler Austin figured in four runs for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He doubled and scored during a two-run second and then belted a three-run homer in the third after Ben Gamel reached on a fielding error by second baseman Carlos Sanchez and Aaron Judge worked a two-out walk.
The Knights will go for a series win at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. Right-hander Chris Volstad (4-4, 4.73 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Charlotte against right-hander Brady Lail (2-1, 3.24).
