The Charlotte Knights scored six times in the eighth inning to overcome an early five-run deficit and defeat the Gwinnett Braves 8-6 Saturday night.
Down 5-0 after the first inning, the Knights chipped away with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before erupting in the eighth to take the lead for good. The first seven Knights batters reached safely in the eighth, with a two-run single by Nicky Delmonico providing Charlotte with a 7-5 lead. A sacrifice fly by Leury Garcia made it 8-5. Jason Bourgeois also had a two-run double in the inning.
Knights starter Chris Volstad settled down after a horrific first inning. Brad Goldberg got the victory. Gwinnett reliever Casey Kelly (2-4) allowed seven runs and eight hits in two innings.
