Marrero, Boesch lift Pawtucket over Charlotte 8-4

Chris Marrero was a home run short of the cycle, scoring three runs as the Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Charlotte Knights 8-4 on Tuesday.

Brennan Boesch homered and singled twice with three RBIs for Pawtucket.

Pawtucket went up 5-0 in the third after Ryan Court hit a two-run single as part of a four-run inning.

Trailing 7-1, the Knights cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Slade Heathcott hit a sacrifice fly and Vinny Rottino scored on a wild pitch and Jerry Sands scored on a double.

The Red Sox tacked on another run in the ninth when Henry Ramos scored on a force out.

Pawtucket starter William Cuevas (5-3) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and nine hits over six innings. Opposing starter Chris Volstad (5-7) took the loss in the International League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 12 hits over five innings.

Note: Participants for Monday’s Triple-A Home Run Derby at BB&T BallPark were announced Tuesday. Aaron Judge (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre), Chris Marrero (Pawtucket) and Jesus Montero (Buffalo) will represent the International League. Kyle Jensen (Reno), Rob Segedin (Oklahoma City) and Travis Taijeron (Las Vegas) are from the Pacific Coast League.

The contest will start at 7 p.m.

The Triple-A All-Star Game is next Wednesday at BB&T BallPark.
