Charlotte Knights inch closer to IL division lead with win
The Charlotte Knights are a half game behind Gwinnett Braves for first place in the International League South after a 6-4 win Saturday night against the Braves.
With the Knights down two in the seventh inning, Jason Bourgeois singled with one out, then advanced to second on an error and to third on a wild pitch. Reliever Brandon Cunniff walked Jerry Sands, Slade Heathcott and Danny Muno for a score.
Jake Peter, who led the Knights with 3 hits and 3 RBIs, drove in Sands and Heathcott for a 2-run lead at 6-4.
▪ Right-hander Tommy Kahnle, who is 1-1 with seven saves and a 3.00 ERA this season with the Knights in 23 games, was promoted to the Chicago White Sox. Right-hander Matt Lollis joined Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham.
▪ The Knights are scheduled for Game 3 of the four-game series with Gwinnett on Sunday at 2:05 and host the Triple-A Home Run Derby on Monday at 7:05. The All-Star Game is Wednesday, also in Charlotte, at 7 p.m.
▪ Reno Aces shortstop Jack Reinheimer, who played at Ardrey Kell, has been added to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team.
