Knights blanked by Red Sox
Keith Couch allowed just five hits over seven innings, leading the Pawtucket Red Sox over the Charlotte Knights in a 2-0 win on Friday.
Couch (1-2) struck out five to pick up the win.
Both runs for Pawtucket came in the fifth inning when Christian Vazquez scored on an error and Rusney Castillo hit an RBI single.
The Knights were blanked for the eighth time this season, while the Pawtucket staff recorded its eighth shutout of the year.
▪ Outfielder Jason Coats returned to the Charlotte Knights after being optioned from the Chicago White Sox. In 43 games with the Knights, Coats is hitting .335 with 26 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 24 RBIs.
▪ The four-game series with Pawtucket continues Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Chris Volstad (6-7, 4.69 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Knights. Pawtucket’s starter has not been announced.
