Knights split pair with Braves
Adam Engel hit a grand slam in the second inning, and David Holmberg allowed just two hits over seven innings as Charlotte beat the Gwinnett Braves 5-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday night, giving the Knights a split of the two games.
Engel’s blast, part of a five-run inning, gave the Knights a 4-0 lead before Jason Bourgeois hit an RBI single later in the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gwinnett cut into the deficit on a sacrifice fly by Blake Lalli that scored Mel Rojas.
Holmberg (1-2) allowed one run while striking out five and walking one to get the win.
Aaron Blair (4-4) went two innings, allowing five runs and seven hits in the International League game. He also struck out one and walked two.
Gwinnett won the first game 7-5.
