Good things are happening for Alex Bowman. The No. 88 Chevrolet driver announced Saturday that he has extended his contract with Hendrick Motorsports for the 2021 season.

“Pumped to lock down the contract extension for 2021!” Bowman tweeted. “Couldn’t be more excited to return to (Team Hendrick) next season and keep the good times rolling in the 88! Thanks for all the support, can’t wait to get to Darlington tomorrow.”

Bowman’s announcement came two days after the Cup Series driver locked in a front row starting position via a random draw for NASCAR’s return race at Darlington on Sunday.

The 27-year-old is in his third season driving for Hendrick Motorsports, and before Saturday, was a highly-watched free agent. He has already secured both real and virtual victories this year. In early March, before the 2020 season was postponed, Bowman won the third Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway. He most recently secured a virtual victory at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26 during the iRacing Pro Invitational Series.

“It doesn’t satisfy it for me,” Bowman said after his virtual victory donuts. “I can’t wait to get back in a real race car. I think that’s something that is definitely important for me.”

Bowman began his career at Hendrick as a substitute driver racing in 10 events in place of injured Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2016. He achieved his first Cup Series victory last season at Chicagoland Speedway and finished 12th in points standings last year.

Bowman is currently ranked fourth in NASCAR points standings.
