Storms could add another challenge to NASCAR Daytona road course. Here’s the forecast.
Storms and heat are in the forecast for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. This is the first time the sport is running races for all three of its national series — Cup, Xfinity and Trucks — at the superspeedway’s road course. In addition to the 14 turns, weather could add to the challenging track conditions.
Lightning strikes delayed Saturday’s Xfinity race. There is a projected high of 91 degrees with clouds overhead and likely thunderstorms in the late afternoon Sunday, according to AccuWeather and the National Weather Service. The Truck Series race, which began at noon Sunday, ran storm-free.
The Cup Series race, the Go Bowling 235, is scheduled to start at 2:55 p.m. on NBC and is in more jeopardy of being delayed as larger storm cells are projected to approach the area around 5 p.m.
