NASCAR at Indy live updates: Reddick wins Verizon 200 after late-race restart

Live updates for this event have ended. For official race results and a recap, click here.

A 14-turn track. 82 laps. 200 miles.

The Verizon 200 at the Brickyard will have its green flag waved around 2:30 p.m. today and will add to an already thrilling NASCAR Cup Series regular season.

Fourteen drivers have notched at least one race win, and there are five more regular-season races to go. It’s conceivable, therefore, that winning a race alone isn’t enough to cement a spot in the 16-driver playoff field — and it emphasizes the idea that every playoff point matters.

The Verizon 200 is broken up into three stages. Those stages end on Laps 15, 35 and 82.

Live updates will be posted in the section below and will be published frequently during the race. Refresh this page for the latest news. Full results will be posted after the race.

Live updates at Indy Cup Series race

Stage 3

Final: Despite a bobble on the final restart, Tyler Reddick holds on for the win at the Verizon 200.

Overtime: Tyler Reddick loses the lead to Ross Chastain on the first of two OT laps, but gets it back as they cross the stripe for the white flag. Austin Cindric in third at the moment. Some confusion about whether Chastain is legal after missing Turn 1 on the restart.

Lap 79: Reddick clear of the field and a handful of cars wreck in Turns 1 and 2 coming off the end ... including Chase Elliott. NASCAR wasn’t going to throw the caution until the 3 of Austin Dillon got hung up and stuck in the sand by Turn 3. Because of that, caution waves again. We’ll have an “overtime” finish here.

Lap 76: Caution is out! Christopher Bell’s right front tire explodes on the front stretch and causes his fender to fly off, bringing out the caution. Worst possible news for Tyler Reddick, who was well clear of the field. Now, he’ll have to deal with Chase Elliott beside him on a restart.

Lap 74: With now 8 to go, Reddick still in front and by a wide margin, but now Chase Elliott has passed Ryan Blaney for second, and now he has the task of trying to chase down Reddick. He has about 3.5 seconds of time to make up.

Lap 72: Ten laps to go in this one, and Tyler Reddick is proving once again to be a wizard on a road course. Ryan Blaney continues to run second, but Reddick is pulling ahead more and more, while Blaney battles less-than-fresh tires.

Lap 65: Another spin, and again it involved Kevin Harvick, but he and Alex Bowman are able to get going again to avoid another caution. Meanwhile, at the front, Reddick has nosed into the lead, with Blaney on his heels and Elliott right behind. The bad news for Blaney? Everyone else has fresher tires.

Lap 61: The first caution of the race arrived with 21 laps to go when the No. 5 car, driven by Kyle Larson, appeared to lose control on Turn 1 and smashed into the No. 42 car, driven by Ty Dillon.

Lap 51: Tyler Reddick, leveraging a more fresh car, overtakes Christopher Bell and retakes his first lead since Stage 1.

Lap 42: The final planned restart has commenced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and it appears that racers have settled in. Christopher Bell maintains his lead, followed by Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace.

Stage 2

Lap 35: Christopher Bell claims Stage 2. Denny Hamlin, who struggled early, made huge strides in Stage 2, claiming the sixth spot. List of those who won stage points (in order): Bell, Kyle Busch, Bubba Wallace, Chase Elliott, Ty Dillon, Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, Cole Custer, Erik Jones, Cody Ware.

Lap 34: Race leaders Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric all enter pit road. It’s Blaney’s first pit stop.

Lap 27: Ryan Blaney (leader), Brad Keselowski and William Byron have yet to make a pit stop. Blaney notched a time of 91.06 in his most recent lap.

Lap 16: Turn 1 is still wreaking havoc. Kevin Harvick gets spun out a few moments after the restart. A look at Turn 1, which has regularly seen a four-car-wide scrum:

Stage 1

Lap 15: Chase Briscoe takes the Stage 1 win. He has now led three laps on the day. Also earning stage points: Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, Todd Gilliland, Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Harrison Burton and Martin Truex Jr.

Lap 12: The No. 17 car driven by Chris Buescher catches on fire on pit road. Tyler Reddick’s team, who led the race’s first 12 laps, opts to enter pit road, foregoing some playoff points that appeared his for the taking. Chase Briscoe takes the lead, followed by Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano.

Lap 8: Denny Hamlin has dropped from his 15th starting position to near the back of the pack to open the race. Tyler Reddick, Austin Cindric and Chase Briscoe maintain a lead. Brad Keselowski spins out into the grass on Turn 1.

Lap 2: Denny Hamlin is one of three drivers to get spun out in the race’s first two laps. No cautions have been issued yet.

Green flag, 3:06 p.m.: And we’re off! Tyler Reddick leads after Lap 1.

3:00 p.m.: AJ Allmendinger won last year’s Verizon 200. He’s had a lot of success at the Indy road course as of late: The driver won the Pennzoil 150 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Brickyard on Saturday.

What’s the starting lineup?

Tyler Reddick won the pole at qualifying on Saturday morning. Austin Cindric will line up alongside him, right in front of Chase Briscoe and Christopher Bell.

Ty Gibbs, who made his Cup Series debut for Joe Gibbs Racing last weekend, will fill in for an injured Kurt Busch again and will begin in the 26th position.
