NASCAR driver Kyle Busch hits the brakes on his Rowdy Energy drink venture

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch is steering out of the energy drink business.

“Rowdy Energy will be ceasing operations and closing its doors in coming weeks,” the two-time Cup champion said Wednesday on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Busch remains the primary owner of the private energy drink company he founded in 2020, according to RowdyEnergy.com. Several minority investors include beverage entrepreneur Jeff Church.

“We had quick success getting into 50,000 doors in just two short years thanks in part to the relationships I’ve been lucky enough to build during my years in racing,” Busch said on X.

Yet, “like many other new consumer brands, the headwinds have proven to be too strong and it makes the most sense to end the journey so I can remain focused on my family and my racing career.”

It’s unclear what he meant by “headwinds.”

Busch also made off-the-track headlines late last year when he sold his Mooresville-based Truck Series headquarters to Concord-based Spire Motorsports for double the property’s assessed value, public records show.

Spire paid $7 million more than what Iredell County tax assessors say the building and land at 351 Mazeppa Road are worth, according to county tax records, The Charlotte Observer reported.
