6/21/11 NASCAR Hall of Fame member Ned Jarrett (right) shares a laugh with current NASCAR driver David Ragan during the signing ceremony making stock car racing the official sport of North Carolina, in the media center at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday. Gov. Bev Perdue signed Senate Bill 322 into law at the ceremony. The bill originated from a group of fourth and fifth grade students from Lake Norman Elementary School and Mt. Mourne IB School in Iredell County, who proposed stock car racing as the state sport.
