Dale Earnhardt Jr. will compete on a NASCAR track this spring. Here’s where and when.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive the yellow No. 8 Hellmann’s Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 21, his Mooresville-based JR Motorsports team announced Tuesday.
Earnhardt retired as a full-time driver in NASCAR’s Cup series in 2017 and is now a racing analyst for NBC Sports. But he has competed part-time in the Xfinity series driving the JR Motorsports No. 8 Camaro.
Unilever, the parent company of Hellmann’s mayonnaise, is JR Motorsports’ longest-tenured partner at 12 years. In 2020, JR Motorsports will carry the Unilever sponsorship in five races with its No. 7 team and driver Justin Allgaier.
The partnership dates to 2009, when Earnhardt Jr. raced a Hellmann’s-sponsored Chevy at the season opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
He finished seventh in that race — the first of at least 110 races in which Unilever brands appeared on the hood and quarter panels of JRM racing cars, according to a JR Motorsports news release Tuesday.
