Former NASCAR series driver found dead in her home, police say
Former NASCAR driver Candace Muzny, who started her own team in Mooresville, was found dead at a home in Oklahoma City Monday night, according to police and local media reports.
Muzny, 43, competed in two races in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East series, once in 2011 and once in 2012, according to Racing-Reference.info. She also drove in NASCAR Late Model divisions and started her own team, called CNM Racing, in 2009.
The cause of Muzny’s death has not been determined but police said they found “no obvious signs at this time that a homicide occurred,” Oklahoma City TV station KOCO News 5 reported.
Neighbor Raushae Jones told station KFOR that Muzny’s family was “in her front yard distraught” when she arrived home.
Muzny lived in the home on Island View Drive where she was found dead, station KOKH reported. Police are awaiting a ruling by the Medical Examiner’s Office on the cause of death, according to the station.
On Jan. 12, Oklahoma City police arrested and jailed Muzny after she was accused of becoming belligerent while receiving a pedicure at a nail salon she frequented, station KWTV News 9 reported.
Salon employee Tiffany Nguyen told the station she was speaking with her boss in Vietnamese when Muzny yelled at them to stop speaking the language, assaulted her and waived a pocket knife at her. Police also accused Muzny of assaulting a police officer who responded to the business, according to KWTV in Oklahoma City, which cited public records from police.
