Dirt track to host Don Tilley motorcycle memorial

The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be the site Saturday for the Don Tilley Memorial Charlotte Half-Mile, an American Motorcycle Association Pro Flat Track event.

The race is in honor of Tilley, a Statesville resident and well-known Davidson motorcycle dealer, who died in 2014.

The AMA Pro Flat Track last raced at the Charlotte dirt track in 2002. Only four active Pro Flat Track riders have raced professionally in Charlotte: Jared Mees, Bryan Smith, Kenny Coolbeth and Jake Johnson. Mees leads this season’s points standings. Gastonia rider Michael Dillon is also scheduled to compete.

The main event begins at 9:20 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: or 800-455-3267.
