Charlotte’s William Byron wins NASCAR Truck race
William Byron, whose day job is a student at Charlotte Country Day, wasn’t quite sure what to do when he won the Toyota Tundra 250 NASCAR Truck series race Friday at Kansas Speedway.
“I didn’t even know how to do a burnout!” Byron said after he evaded a last-lap wreck in front of him overtime. The wreck took out Ben Rhodes and Johnny Sauter and paved the way for Byron to win for the first time in his career.
Byron is a senior at Country Day who is scheduled to graduate May 27. He already had a third-place finish at Martinsville and will run again Friday at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.
