Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was on a Charlotte nightclub stage seconds before shots were fired that injured two people last week.

In a report by WSOC-TV, Newton is shown on stage with rapper Young Jeezy on Saturday evening in the moments before someone fired shots at Label nightclub during the CIAA tournament weekend. Newton was unharmed, according to a source close to him.

Newton, wearing a black scarf, black hat and white jacket, is seen smiling in pictures beside the rapper, who like Newton is from Atlanta. Shots were fired about 7 p.m. One woman was struck in the head but not seriously injured while another man showed up at the hospital later in the evening saying was struck in the leg by a bullet at Label.

Newton can be seen on stage in this Instagram video by Atlanta photographer Prince Williams.

Attempts to reach Newton were unsuccessful.

On Sunday afternoon, Newton was in Atlanta hosting more than 300 people at a football banquet for his all-star 7-on-7 teams and their relatives.

It’s the second close call for Newton in four months. On Dec. 10, Newton was involved in a two-car accident that totaled his pickup truck along an interstate overpass. Police deemed Newton was not at fault in the wreck that left him with two fractures in his lower back.

Police say the investigation is ongoing but have not identified a suspect in the shooting. Two other people were stabbed at a party at the Oasis Tent near uptown. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Deputy Chief Jeff Estes said the city had an “excellent” CIAA week.

“We had more than 100,000 people in very small confined areas uptown,” Estes said Monday at a press conference. “We had parties all over the place, day parties and night parties. We had all kinds of entertainment. We had a basketball tournament ... that was taking place, and only two incidents of note.”
