Falcons select Clemson’s Vic Beasley at No. 8
The Atlanta Falcons selected Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley with the eighth overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday.

What he offers: Beasley, Clemson’s all-time sacks leader, is among the best pass rushers in the draft. But Beasley wanted to show teams that he could drop into coverage and rush the passer as a linebacker during Clemson’s pro day.
Worth mentioning: The Falcons have a new coach, Dan Quinn, who values pass rushers, and the team is in desperate need of players who can fire off the edge and get to the quarterback. ... The Falcons ranked last in total defense and pass defense last season.
Bet you didn’t know: Beasley didn’t hesitate when reporters asked for his preferred destination at the Tigers’ pro day. He said Atlanta. “I grew up a Falcons fan. I would love to play for the Falcons. But wherever I go I’m going to honor that team and give my best effort.”
