Panthers' first-round pick, former Maryland wideout D.J. Moore, signs rookie deal
Now D.J. Moore can take his summer break.
Moore, the Carolina Panthers’ first-round pick in the April draft, signed his rookie contract Monday, the team announced. The former star Maryland wide receiver was the last of the Panthers’ eight draft picks to finalize his deal.
Under the rookie salary scale, Moore’s four-year contract was projected to be worth $11.2 million, with a $6.2 million signing bonus. Moore’s cap number this year is expected to be $2.03 million.
The Panthers took Moore with the 24th overall pick, giving their receiving corps the type of yards-after-catch game-breaker they’ve lacked since Steve Smith was cut after the 2013 season.
Moore, who had a solid showing throughout OTAs and minicamp, is part of a revamped receiving corps that also includes veterans Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright.
Moore, at 6 feet and 210 pounds, was the Big Ten Receiver of the Year in 2017 after catching a school-record 80 passes for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns, despite playing with four quarterbacks.
