A familiar face returned to the Carolina Panthers’ training camp Thursday morning.
Safety Tre Boston, the Panthers’ fourth-round draft pick in 2014, walked onto the practice field at Wofford College after signing a one-year contract reportedly worth up to $3 million. He was not in uniform but did get lots of hugs along the sideline, the Observer’s Scott Fowler said in a tweet.
Boston, who played at North Carolina, spent three seasons with the Panthers. He also played with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Arizona Cardinals.
He should be in the running to start at free safety alongside Eric Reid. Second-year defensive back Rashaan Gaulden and former Charlotte Latin and Duke star Ross Cockrell have split time at that spot in recent days.
“Coming back here was easy for me,” Boston told the Panthers’ website. “I wanted to find a good contract. I fit in this system. It’s all about being on the right page with what I’m worth and what these guys are asking of me.”
