Ex-Carolina Panthers star enters boxing business with planned SouthPark fitness studio
Former Carolina Panthers’ star fullback Mike Tolbert is entering the boxing business with a planned fitness studio in the SouthPark area of south Charlotte.
The three-time Pro Bowler and his wife, Shianette, have signed a development agreement with RockBox Fitness, according to the Charlotte-based fitness franchise. Its workouts combine boxing, kickboxing and functional training.
“I used to spend hours in the ring as way to step up my off-season conditioning workouts,” Tolbert said in a news release. “I loved it. Still love it. Can’t get enough.”
The agreement comes several months after former Panthers CFO Mike Dudan committed to opening five RockBox Fitness studios in the Carolinas. That agreement is unrelated to the Tolberts’.
An exact address of the couple’s studio has yet to be announced, but they expect to open in the SouthPark mall area sometime this summer.
Mike Tolbert said he always intended to do something boxing-related once his pro football career ended.
The 10-year NFL veteran was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and played his first four seasons for the Chargers. He signed as a free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2012. He played for the Buffalo Bills in 2017.
His career totals include 2,649 rushing yards, 1,861 receiving yards and 46 total touchdowns.
Shianette Tolbert graduated from National University with a psychology degree and criminal justice minor. For eight years, she has been a stay-at-home mom to the couple’s three children, ages 8, 6 and 2.
