Ron Rivera hosts massive yard sale for Charlotte Humane Society. Here’s how you can go.
Saturday at the Humane Society of Charlotte will be a Carolina Panthers fan’s dream.
The Humane Society will host a Ron Rivera-Panthers Yard Sale featuring items from a “massive donation” to the society by the ex-Panthers head coach and his wife, Stephanie. Rivera is the new head coach in Washington.
The items — mostly Panthers’ team clothing and memorabilia — are from Rivera’s private collection, Humane Society officials said in announcing the yard sale. Two of the images featured on a poster for the charity yard sale are Panthers NFL jerseys for Greg Olsen, former Panthers tight end, and Christian McCaffrey, running back.
The Riveras will join the event, which is from noon to 3 p.m., allowing shoppers to take photos and receive autographs. The Riveras will autograph up to two items for a $5 donation to the Humane Society of Charlotte. The society is at 2700 Toomey Ave.
“The Rivera family has been an invaluable partner to HSC over the last 9 years,” Donna Stucker, the humane society’s vice-president of philanthropy, said in a statement Wednesday. “We’re sad to see them go, but are excited for their family’s new adventure and thankful for their help raising donations for HSC and serving as honorary chairpersons for the We Are Family Capital Campaign.”
Rivera was the Panthers’ coach for almost nine seasons until Panthers owner David Tepper fired him with four games left in the year. During his tenure, the team landed in the playoff four of those seasons and went to the Super Bowl.
At the sale, fans can shop for men’s and women’s Panthers apparel. They’ll find new and gently used items from the Riveras’ personal collection and from players and other coaches. Limited-edition Panthers memorabilia will also be sold.
Society officials said in the statement that they can’t guarantee what items and which players will be featured, “but there are sure to be some rare finds!”
The Riveras supported the society for nearly a decade, officials said. In September, the couple began serving as honorary chairpersons of the We Are Family Capital Campaign and helped kick off the public phase of the campaign.
The campaign is raising money to build a state-of-the-art Humane Society of Charlotte animal resource center to serve Charlotte and the area. Donations are nearing $11 million, with $3 million left to raise for construction to start.
Saturday’s yard sale will benefit the campaign.
Pets are not permitted at the event, officials said.
