Carolina Panthers undrafted free agent tracker: Focused on offense after NFL draft

The 2020 NFL draft is in the books. The Panthers turned their seven picks over three days into seven defensive players that they hope will be the start of a strong and growing defense for years to come.

But that doesn’t mean Carolina is done adding new players. The Panthers are focusing on signing offensive players who went undrafted through seven rounds. This year is unique due to the restrictions on offseason programs because of the coronavirus pandemic, which raises questions about how much time young, new players will get to learn schemes and impress their coaches, but the Panthers are still filling out a 90-man roster.

“I think that you go to 90, because you want to get guys trained, and whether it’s through virtual meetings or whatever we’re allowed to do up to that point, it doesn’t mean that we’ll be at 90 on Monday or Tuesday, but I think you’re always looking to try to find players who will help you,” general manager Marty Hurney said. “I think you want to try to get as much depth and as much competition on the roster and you really do shoot to maximize that 90 player limit.”

The Observer will keep a running list of the undrafted free agents the Panthers bring in over the next couple weeks to supplement their draft picks. 17 have agreed to terms thus far.
