Inactive players for Panthers vs. Raiders: Carolina sits one of its quarterbacks
Second-year quarterback Will Grier will backup Teddy Bridgewater for the Carolina Panthers’ season opener vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.
Former XFL quarterback P.J. Walker, the only other quarterback on the team’s roster, is inactive for the team’s season opener. Head coach Matt Rhule had said previously that the team was going to take the backup quarterback job on a week-to-week basis. Grier had out-performed Walker during training camp, but the Panthers never considered not keeping all three quarterbacks on the team’s active roster.
Rookie CB Stan Thomas-Oliver is also inactive. He was questionable coming into the game with a hamstring injury. DE Stephen Weatherly was questionable coming into the game with a hamstring injury as well, but he is active and the Panthers will see how much he can do. Left guard Dennis Daley was ruled out Friday with an ankle injury that kept him out of practice all week.
The team also announced that rookie Jeremy Chinn will start at SAM linebacker. Four rookies will start for the Panthers on defense.
