Carolina Panthers are activating a key starter back to the 53-man roster
The Carolina Panthers will add left guard Pat Elflein back to the 53-man roster Wednesday.
Elflein, who started the first two games of the season, suffered the injury in the first half of the Panthers’ Week 2 game against the Saints, and was put on injured reserve on Sept. 23.
He was designated to return to practice three weeks ago. Teams have up to 21 days to add a player to the roster after designating them to return. Elflein was expected to return earlier, but he suffered a setback in practice.
It’s unclear whether Elflein will return to the starting lineup. But having him back does provide depth. Offensive guard Michael Jordan, who has started the past two games, has played well.
He could, however, switch over to the right side, where the Panthers are thin.
The Panthers’ offensive line had their best game in last week’s 19-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons. They didn’t allow any sacks and only three quarterback hits.
The Panthers signed Elflein, 26, in free agency to a three-year, $13.5 million deal.
