Buccaneers vs. Panthers inactives: Jaycee Horn, Baker Mayfield missing for Carolina
The Carolina Panthers will be without quarterback Baker Mayfield and multiple veteran defenders on Sunday when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Bank of America Stadium.
Mayfield has been listed as doubtful and been inactive in back-to-back weeks due to a high ankle sprain. While Mayfield was able to practice this week, head coach Steve Wilks essentially ruled him out on Friday.
Starting cornerback Jaycee Horn (ribs) will also miss a second consecutive game. C.J. Henderson is likely to start in his place against the Buccaneers.
Defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis and defensive end Henry Anderson were also on the inactive list for the Panthers ahead of the Week 7 matchup.
Ioannidis was listed as “doubtful” heading into the weekend with a neck injury. Ioannidis was also in concussion protocol as of Friday.
Anderson was ruled out before the game with an illness.
Pregame roster moves
The Panthers made a handful of roster moves on Saturday before the game.
The Panthers placed starting center Pat Elflein on injured reserve. The squad plans to start center Bradley Bozeman in Elflein’s place.
The team also activated defensive tackle Bravvion Roy (hamstring) from injured reserve and waived defensive tackle Phil Hoskins from the 53-man roster.
The Panthers then elevated quarterback Jacob Eason and cornerback Tae Hayes from the practice squad from the matchup against the Buccaneers.
Eason will back up starting quarterback PJ Walker, and Roy will fill out the defensive tackle rotation with Ioannidis out of the lineup.
