Panthers restructure Taylor Moton’s contract ahead of NFL free agency
For the second consecutive offseason, the Panthers have restructured the contract of right tackle Taylor Moton.
Moton was designated to count more than $25 million against the 2023 salary cap. According to a league source, the move frees up approximately $11 million of cap space which puts Carolina about $10 million below the cap.
The 28-year-old tackle signed a four-year, $72 million extension in 2021. Moton played in every game last season and has not missed a game since being drafted in 2017. His contract is the second restructure across the Panthers’ offensive line. The team restructured guard Austin Corbett’s deal two weeks ago. With guard Brady Christensen and tackle Ikem Ekwonu also under contract, the Panthers’ offensive line is a center away from being complete.
General manager Scott Fitterer will keep trying to free cap space before March 13, when teams can begin negotiating with other teams’ free agents. The team can save even more cap space by restructuring receiver DJ Moore’s deal. Linebacker Shaq Thompson’s contract will also either be redone or terminated by next week.
Teams can officially sign free agents and complete trades once the new league year starts on March 15.
