Panthers land DT DeShawn Williams to strengthen Ejiro Evero’s 3-4 defensive front
The Carolina Panthers’ revamped roster added another big body on Wednesday.
Former Denver Broncos defensive lineman DeShawn Williams agreed to terms on a contract with the Panthers, the team announced. The details of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Williams, a native if Central, South Carolina, spent last season in Denver working under new Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 292 pounds, Williams will play an interior spot within the Panthers’ new-look 3-4 front. With fellow free-agent addition Shy Tuttle expected to man the nose tackle position, Williams is likely to line up as a defensive end opposite former first-round pick Derrick Brown.
Williams, 30, has bounced around quite a bit in the NFL and briefly played for Panthers head coach Frank Reich in 2018. Along with his stints with the Broncos and Colts, Williams has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins. Williams had three separate stints in Denver, and he has produced 115 tackles, eight sacks and eight pass breakups in 50 career games.
Williams joins Tuttle, safety Vonn Bell, quarterback Andy Dalton, tight end Hayden Hurst and running back Miles Sanders as the newest additions to the Panthers’ roster in free agency.
