The Panthers added a Greensboro native to their 90-man roster on Friday following a successful workout in Spartanburg, S.C.

Following Carolina’s seventh practice of training camp, the team hosted a workout with at least seven players. After the workout, the team announced it signed cornerback Mac McCain and waived rookie defensive back Colby Richardson in a corresponding move.

McCain, 25, played college football at North Carolina A&T. After going undrafted in 2021, McCain signed with the Denver Broncos before eventually landing with the Philadelphia Eagles. McCain, listed as 6 feet tall and 186 pounds, bounced back and forth from the Eagles to the Broncos during his rookie year.

The James B. Dudley High alum spent the 2022 season bouncing on and off the Eagles’ practice squad.

This offseason, McCain signed with the Detroit Lions. He was released in May.

McCain will now join a cornerback depth chart that features Jaycee Horn, CJ Henderson, Donte Jackson, Keith Taylor, Stantley Thomas-Oliver, Herb Miller, Rejzohn Wright and Mark Milton.

Richardson, an undrafted rookie out of LSU, signed with the Panthers ahead of rookie minicamp in May. He will now be subject to waivers.
