Miles Sanders took part in individual drills but didn’t compete in team work on Saturday.

The running back atop the Carolina Panthers’ depth chart “had a little tweak of something,” head coach Frank Reich told reporters after his team’s eighth practice of 2023 training camp.

“Sanders did individual, had a little tweak of something, and so we just talked about it and said, ‘Let’s just take him out of team,’” Reich said. “I think he’s fine, but let’s just be precautionary.”

Reich hadn’t spoken with team doctors immediately after practice to discern what the injury was.

Sanders is one of the Panthers’ top acquisitions of the offseason. The 26-year-old running back signed a 4-year, $25-million contract in March — one of the biggest in the NFL at the position — after starting on a Philadelphia Eagles team that earned a trip to the Super Bowl last season.

Sanders’ absence thrust Chuba Hubbard into the RB1 spot on Saturday. Hubbard is entering his third year and had a solid day outside of a drop during a goal-line situation in 11-on-11 drills that would’ve prompted a score.

Raheem Blackshear, RB3, and Spencer Brown, RB4, also got meaningful work Saturday.

Among the other training camp attendance notes:

The Panthers announced that offensive lineman Chandler Zavala was activated off of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Panthers defensive back Von Bell, sporting a bucket hat and calling plays on defense Saturday, took a veteran day off.

And defensive back Rejzohn Wright returned to action after missing a few practices earlier this week.
