Storms cancel Panthers-Jets joint practice, ending Carolina’s training camp

That’s a wrap on Carolina’s training camp.

The Panthers’ final practice of 2023 training camp was canceled early Thursday morning after rain and thunderstorms arrived at Spartanburg, S.C., just after 7 a.m. The practice will not be rescheduled, per a team spokesman.

Local forecasts show that the rain wouldn’t relent until around 11 a.m. Practice was scheduled to begin at 9.

The Charlotte-based NFL team was scheduled to host a second of two joint practices with the New York Jets on Thursday. The two teams likely didn’t miss much: Head coach Frank Reich said that Thursday would be a lighter practice.

The Panthers’ 2023 training camp was blessed with dry — if hot — weather these past three weeks. Attendance has been great, too. There were over 10,000 tickets distributed for the Panthers-Jets joint practice at Wofford College on Wednesday. Most fans in the crowd were decked out in rookie Bryce Young jerseys, but plenty wore Jets (and Aaron Rodgers) attire, too.

The Jets are reportedly holding their own practice Thursday without the Panthers. It is closed to the public.
