What Panthers DT Derrick Brown said about his post-game spat with Saints WR Michael Thomas
Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown isn’t interested in rehashing his Monday night war of words with Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas.
Following Carolina’s 20-17 loss to New Orleans on Monday, Brown was caught on camera in a heated exchange with Thomas, who had left the field through the Panthers’ tunnel within Bank of America Stadium.
The exchange between Brown and Thomas is hard to hear, and the two players did eventually turn a corner to the left, which cut off the view of the camera. According to Kyle Bailey of WFNZ, Brown was restrained by a Panthers staff member as Thomas went into the stadium’s X-ray room.
The Saints’ visiting locker room was on the opposite side of the end zone from where Brown and Thomas exited the field. Panthers staffers and linebacker Chandler Wooten could be seen leaving the field through the tunnel in the video.
Wednesday, The Observer asked Brown if the confrontation was the result of Thomas walking through the Panthers’ tunnel.
“No, that’s where the interaction happened,” Brown said. “Like I said, it’s over with now, so it is what it is.”
Brown chose not to discuss the incident any further with media. He declined to answer whether or not the exchange was the result of him protecting the home turf.
Thomas, the 2019 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, caught seven passes on nine targets for 55 yards against the Panthers. Brown produced seven tackles in 72 defensive snaps.
Following the loss, the Panthers fell to 0-2 in the NFL and NFC South division standings. The Saints enter Week 3 at 2-0 with a division win under their belts.
