Panthers Week 14 injury report: Updates on Hayden Hurst, Tommy Tremble vs. Saints

The Carolina Panthers won’t make tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) available for their Week 14 matchup against the New Orleans Saints Sunday at Caesars Superdome.

Hurst has been in the league’s concussion protocol since suffering a head injury in the Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears on Nov. 9. The team listed Hurst as “out” heading into the game against the Saints.

Wednesday, Hurst’s father, Jerry, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the tight end had “been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist.” Hurst’s father indicated that the injury has led to a slow recovery.

Thursday, Hurst gave his own update on the injury. The tight end said in an X post, “I appreciate everyone reaching out (and) checking on me. I suffered a pretty nasty concussion against the Bears a few weeks ago (and) don’t remember up to 4 hours after the game. Scary situation but the Panthers have been incredible walking me through this process.”

He added: “While it was scary, it is NOT career ending. I’m starting my return to play this week, so fingers crossed I make it back for the last few weeks! God Bless & Keep Pounding !!!!”

Hurst has not spoken to the media since suffering the concussion nearly a month ago.

The status of fellow tight ends Tommy Tremble (hip) and Stephen Sullivan (shoulder) is up in the air heading into the weekend. Tremble and Sullivan were listed as “questionable” Friday.

Tremble missed last week’s loss to Tampa Bay due to injury, but he has been one of the team’s most productive red-zone weapons this season. He has caught 13 passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns this season. Ian Thomas is the lone healthy tight end on the 53-man roster. The Panthers also have Jordan Matthews available on the practice squad.

Thomas and Tremble are set to wear bright orange cleats to represent Autism Charlotte as part of the NFL’s annual “My Cause My Cleats” campaign in New Orleans.

Joining Tremble and Sullivan in the “questionable” department are pass rushers Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring) and Marquis Haynes (back) and center Bradley Bozeman (ankle). Safety Vonnn Bell (shoulder) missed last week’s game against the Buccaneers but has no status this week.

Defensive lineman DeShawn Williams (knee) has been ruled out after missing the entire week of practice.

Below is the complete injury report for the Panthers in Week 14:

OUT: TE Hayden Hurst (concussion protocol), DE DeShawn Williams (knee)

Questionable: TE Tommy Tremble (hip), TE Stephen Sullivan (shoulder), OLB Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring), OLB Marquis Haynes (back), C Bradley Bozeman (ankle)
