The Carolina Panthers are moving on from a recent high draft pick.

The team traded wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick (previously acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs) to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick, a league source confirmed to The Observer. Mingo, the 39th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, lasted just 24 games with the franchise.

Mingo had an excellent training camp, but he quickly found himself falling down the depth chart during the first half of the regular season. He was out-snapped by first-round pick Xavier Legette and undrafted rookie Jalen Coker for multiple weeks before he was sent to Dallas.

Through nine games this season, Mingo caught 12 passes for 121 yards. He failed to haul in a touchdown during his entire run in Carolina, producing 539 total receiving yards off 55 catches in his time with the team.

He caught just one pass for one yard in his final four games with the Panthers, clearly indicating that he needed a change of scenery. Veteran journeyman wideout David Moore played 46 snaps compared to Mingo’s 15 reps in Sunday’s 23-22 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Mingo, who still has two years left on his rookie contract, will look to make the most of his fresh start in Dallas. He will compete with Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks for playing time at the wide receiver position behind All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys.

The Panthers will move on at the position with veteran Adam Thielen leading the charge opposite Legette, Coker and Moore. The Panthers also have Deven Thompkins on the practice squad.

The Panthers will incur a $860,292 dead-money hit for trading Mingo, according to Over The Cap. The trade return for Mingo keeps the Panthers draft picks haul at nine selections in 2025.

The Panthers will host Mingo and the Cowboys in Week 15 at Bank of America Stadium on Dec. 15.

Here is a look at the Panthers’ 2025 draft picks:
