Video shows Panthers WR Xavier Legette jumping into lake: ‘I’m scared of it!’

Xavier Legette’s eventful summer continues.

The Carolina Panthers’ second-year wide receiver from South Carolina was seated on the edge of a boat, dangling his feet into the lake. A group of buddies, including Carolina first-round selection Tetairoa McMillan, heckled Legette to dive into the ankle-deep water.

“Well, I’m scared of it!” Legette said in a video on X after being asked to do a jump. “Bro, I can’t even feel at the bottom of there.”

Wearing a life vest, Legette held onto a red rope as he got his legs wet and lamented how cold it felt. He momentarily put more of his body into the water, before dapping up McMillan and the other guys as they all laughed back on the boat.

“Bro, you had the rope,” McMillan told him.

“Let me get my mind right,” Legette said.

With Legette’s back turned, several of the other boat attendees flopped into the lake themselves.

Legette’s eventful offseason

The Mullins, S.C., native has been all over.

Legette, who grew up riding horses, attended the Kentucky Derby in May. Wearing denim-on-denim with a hat and boots, Legette felt excited to serve as an NFL correspondent at the prestigious race.

Rink-side for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Legette also attended his first NHL game. Legette was seated along the glass in a black Carolina Hurricanes sweater at the Lenovo Center.

Legette also hosted a youth football camp. It’s something he didn’t experience as a kid, and it meant a lot for him to debut it to the next generation in South Carolina.

A big part of the Panthers’ offense in Year 2

Legette is a massive piece of Carolina’s receiving corps.

The former South Carolina Gamecock made a team-best 49 catches last season as a rookie, including four touchdowns. His 497 yards through the air were second-most behind Adam Thielen.

Legette underwent foot surgery this offseason and is doing well, he told The Charlotte Observer last month. It didn’t keep him out through the team’s eight-week program early this year.

The Panthers have added another young wideout in McMillan — he and Legette are expected to start on the outside of the formation, with Thielen joining the starters in three-receiver sets.
