Panthers rookie Nic Scourton agrees to contract before first training camp practice
The Carolina Panthers will have their entire 2025 rookie class at Bank of America Stadium to begin training camp Tuesday.
On Saturday, the team reached a contract agreement with second-round pick Nic Scourton, a league source confirmed to The Observer. While the terms of the deal weren’t immediately disclosed, the contract is for four years, which is standard for a rookie deal. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the agreement.
In April, the Panthers traded up to select Scourton, an outside linebacker from Texas A&M, with the 51st overall pick. The Panthers have claimed multiple times since the selection that Scourton was graded as a first-round pick on their draft board this spring.
Scourton underwent a notable body transformation after transferring from Purdue to Texas A&M in 2024. From the beginning of his junior season to his selection in the draft, Scourton dropped roughly 28 pounds. Now listed as 6-foot-3 and 257 pounds, Scourton is projected to be a bit more explosive than he was during his final year in college.
During Scourton’s three-year college career, he produced 109 total tackles (31 for loss), 17 sacks and three forced fumbles.
Scourton and third-round pick Princely Umanmielen are expected to round out a young group of pass rushers led by D.J. Wonnum and Patrick Jones Jr.
Umanmielen, first-round pick Tetairoa McMillan and the rest of the draft class agreed to their rookie contracts during the team’s offseason program in May.
Scourton’s deal was held up as most of the second-round picks waited out negotiations into July following the fully guaranteed deals given out to Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger (No. 33) and Houston Texans wideout Jayden Higgins (No. 34) after the draft.
The Panthers have eight drafted rookies on their roster this offseason. McMillan, Scourton and Umanmielen are the headliners, but running back Trevor Etienne, safety Lathan Ransom, defensive tackle Cam Jackson, tight end Mitchell Evans and wideout Jimmy Horn Jr. are all expected to contribute as rookies.
