  • Former Panther recorded 5.5 sacks and 46 tackles during 2024 season in Carolina

Rock Hill native and NFL veteran Jadeveon Clowney was arrested last week in his hometown, according to police and court records obtained by The Charlotte Observer.

Clowney was charged with two misdemeanors — trespassing and failure to identify — on Sept. 12. He was released on bond after being taken into custody, according to tickets provided by the Rock Hill court, and paid $465 in bond for each citation.

His trial date in municipal court is scheduled for Oct. 6.

Clowney, who spent the 2024 season with the Carolina Panthers, was trying to park in a lot that was not open to parking, documents show. According to the incident report, Clowney tried to park at an apartment complex in downtown Rock Hill just across the street from District Three Stadium, which was hosting a football game between city rivals South Pointe and Northwestern high schools.

Officers on duty said he couldn’t park there if he didn’t live in the complex; Clowney responded by saying his aunt lived there, the incident report reads. The incident report then says that after some arguing, the reporting officer issued a trespass warning, and then upon the request of his identification, Clowney “repeatedly refused.”

Clowney told reporters in Dallas, when asked about his arrest in Rock Hill, that “that’s been going on my whole life down there,” via Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com.

“It ain’t nothing new,” Clowney said. “Just move on from it. I’m here now.”

Clowney signed with the Dallas Cowboys two days after the arrest. He spent the first two weeks of the 2025 NFL season as a free agent after being released by the Panthers this past offseason.

Clowney will be a game-time decision in the Cowboys’ Week 3 contest against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Clowney, 32, was born in Rock Hill and has family in York County. He attended South Pointe High School in the city and later went on to become a stalwart pass rusher at the University of South Carolina before becoming the overall No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The three-time Pro Bowler is entering his 12th season in the NFL — and the Cowboys mark his seventh team in that span. He finished last season starting all 14 games he played, adding 5.5 sacks, 46 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits.
