Panthers land just one player on annual Pro Bowl Games roster

The Panthers will be represented by cornerback Jaycee Horn for a second consecutive Pro Bowl Games.

The NFL announced the initial Pro Bowl Games rosters for the AFC and NFC on Tuesday. Horn was the lone Panthers player to join the all-star festivities.

With the Panthers at 8-7 and in control of the NFC South division race, it’s surprising to see just one player make the Pro Bowl roster.

Defensive tackle Derrick Brown, long snapper JJ Jansen, left guard Damien Lewis, running back Rico Dowdle and rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan all finished in the top 10 of fan voting at their respective positions, according to the NFL. Fan voting, though, only accounts for one-third of the voting process. The rest of the voting is done by players and coaches.

The Pro Bowl Games will be played at 8 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Jaycee Horn goes back-to-back

Horn, who signed a four-year, $100 million deal in March, is headed back to the Pro Bowl Games with much more national clout.

Through 14 games, Horn has posted a career-high five interceptions, which puts him behind only Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard (six) for the most picks on the year.

The 2021 first-round pick has also become a face of the franchise and leader in the locker room. He enters Week 17 with 35 tackles (one for loss) and eight pass breakups.
