Panthers offensive line allows only two sacks, but ‘left some plays out there’

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had to joke with right tackle Mike Remmers about how many of his passes were getting tipped.

He teased Remmers that the Jaguars “had like 30 tipped balls” in Sunday’s 20-9 victory over the Jaguars. Newton was sacked just twice Sunday and had two passes defensed by defensive linemen, but his protection could have been better.

“We left some plays out there,” center Ryan Kalil said. “We were close on breaking a couple of them and we have to do a better job (identifying) some of them and it starts with me. I’ve got to do a better job IDing some of those fronts. I had a couple of (missed assignments) on that.”

On Newton’s interception, he had his shoulder hit as he attempted to throw a back-shoulder pass to Devin Funchess.

“That can’t happen,” Newton said. “Have to step up in the pocket or get off that read or take another (hesitation) rather than allowing that to happen.”
