Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart gets Wednesday off from practice

Running back Jonathan Stewart got the day off Wednesday with a sore knee, though Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Stewart probably could have practiced if the team wanted to push it.

Stewart played 50 snaps last week in the 20-9 victory over Jacksonville, finishing with 18 carries for 56 yards.

Stewart was joined on the sideline by tight end Richie Brockel (shoulder), tackle Nate Chandler (knee) and defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (groin). Brockel said he wasn’t sure if he’d be ready to play this week, and Chandler said he’s day-to-day.

Defensive end Wes Horton (shoulder) was limited along with defensive tackle Star Lotulelei.
