Carolina Panthers have field goal blocked for second straight week

The Carolina Panthers had a field-goal attempt blocked in Week 1 against the Jaguars, and it happened again Sunday against the Houston Texans, in the fourth quarter.

Gano’s 53-yard attempt, which would have sealed the game, was blocked by Jared Crick and bounced harmlessly into the end zone. Houston took over near midfield with less than three minutes remaining.

“I feel like I’m kicking the ball well,” Gano said. “(Sunday), that felt like my best hit of the day. We’ll just have to wait and see what happened on film and go from there.”

The blocked field goal officially goes down as the third miss of the season for Gano, though two of those were blocked. In the 20-9 Week 1 victory, Gano’s 43-yard attempt late in the fourth quarter was blocked.

“We are going to have to take a look at that because that’s two weeks in a row,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “We can’t have that. Both times it ended up costing us, and we have to figure out if they are getting too much pressure.”

The Panthers had field-goal protection problems to end last season, too. Seattle’s Kam Chancellor jumped over the line twice in the Seahawks’ playoff victory against the Panthers in January.

“I can’t control that so I’m just going to keep kicking,” Gano said.
