Will Saints QB Drew Brees play? Panthers Roman Harper doesn’t want to know

While the status of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees remains in question, Carolina Panthers safety Roman Harper refuses to tap into his New Orleans sources to find out what’s going on with Brees’ shoulder.

Harper, who played for the Saints from 2006-2013, says he won’t make any calls to New Orleans this week to check on Brees’ condition.

“I don’t want to do it that way. That would be cheating and I’m not about that,” Harper said. “It would feel like I have inside trader (information) and I’m not that guy. So I refuse to call down there. I’m not going to ask.”

Brees, who has a bruised rotator cuff, was limited at practice for the second consecutive day Thursday. He hasn’t missed a game because of injury in nine-plus seasons with New Orleans, and the Panthers don’t expect that streak to end this week.

“I fully expect to see Drew Brees, just knowing the competitor he is and the type of guy he is,” linebacker Thomas Davis said. “Knowing how familiar he is with their offense and our defense. He’s a guy that can not practice all week long and come out and still play Sunday.”

The Panthers don’t typically study tape of a backup quarterback. But given the uncertainty surrounding Brees, Davis said players have watched tape of Saints No. 2 quarterback Luke McCown from the preseason.
