Ten questions about life off the field with Carolina Panthers K Graham Gano.
Q. Your reaction after the game-winner against the Colts was pretty chill. What was that about?
A. You see some kickers dancing and going crazy. I try to act like I’ve been there before. That’s kind of my mindset. It’s just another kick. That’s what they send me out there to do, so just act like all the rest.
Q. I saw the Baltimore kicker (Justin Tucker) dancing last week. Is that who you’re referring to?
A. There’s all kinds of guys out there who have their own little thing. I’m not referring to one guy specificially.
Q. You did the opposite of dancing.
A. Well, I went out there expecting to make it. I just wanted to walk off. I was pointing up in the stands to my wife and then all the guys ran and jumped on me, so that was fun.
Q. What was the coolest congratulatory text you got?
A. I’ve literally got probably 150 I haven’t seen yet. So I have no idea. My phone’s just been blowing up. And then 100-some Facebook messages as well.
Q. Can you drop some names on me?
A. Robert Griffin III. He texted me from Washington. I always thought he was a great guy.
Q. Where’s the ball?
A. It’s at home. My son was kicking it around it yesterday. I think it’s up on a cabinet.
Q. He was kicking it around?
A. Yeah. My 1 1/2-year old, I gave it to him and he put it on the floor and started kicking it. The balls ain’t pretty. After being in the rain they’re pretty ugly looking. They’re all waterlogged.
Q. These are the K balls?
A. Yeah, these are some of them down there (next to his locker) that we were kicking. They’re super heavy. It’s funny to see them after the games. You don’t realize when you’re kicking them. But to feel how heavy they are afterward is pretty wild.
Q. Clemson-Florida State this week. That’s a big one.
A. It’s like a home game for us (Seminoles). Clemson’s kind of like our second home. We’re used to winning there.
Q. Are you going to go?
A. No, I probably won’t go to the game.
