Carolina Panthers CB Charles Tillman misses practice again
All indications are that Carolina Panthers cornerback Charles Tillman missing this week’s game in New Orleans and Colin Jones getting the start at nickel again.
Tillman missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday, though he did do some light work with his position group. The Panthers are likely to start Bene Benwikere outside at corner and go with Jones again at nickel.
“It looked good but we’re not going to push anything,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said of Tillman, who injured his knee three weeks ago at Tennessee. “We’re going to take our time and make sure we get it right for him.”
Veteran Cortland Finnegan, who signed with the team earlier in the week, is in good condition, Rivera said, but he still has to get in football shape.
Finnegan will likely be active Sunday but won’t start.
“He really showed that he’s got a good feel for what we want to do,” Rivera said. “We’ll have a specific plan for opportunities to put him on the field and see how he can do for us. Obviously it’ll be designed for him to show us what he can do.”
Defensive end Mario Addison has essentially been ruled out for this week with an ankle injury, though he did get his cast off on Thursday.
Receiver Philly Brown (shoulder), defensive end Kony Ealy (neck), defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (ankle) and defensive tackle Star Lotulelei (ankle) were all full participants at practice.
